ABOUT KYRGYZSTAN

Kyrgyzstan is a country in Central Asia, a landlocked country with mountainous terrain. It is bordered by Kazakhstan to the north, Uzbekistan to the west and southwest, Tajikistan to the southwest and China to the east. Major cities are Bishkek, Osh and Jalal-Abad. Kyrgyzstan has been at the crossroads of several great civilizations as part of the Silk Road and other commercial and cultural routes. Kyrgyzstan is a member of the Commonwealth of Independent States, the Eurasian Economic Union, the Collective Security Treaty Organization, the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, the Turkic Council, the Türksoy community and the United Nations.

 GEOGRAPHY OF KYRGYZSTAN

The mountainous region of the Tian Shan covers over 80% of the country (Kyrgyzstan is occasionally referred to as “the Switzerland of Central Asia”, as a result), with the remainder made up of valleys and basins.
Issyk-Kul Lake, in the north-eastern Tian Shan is the largest lake in Kyrgyzstan and the second largest mountain lake in the world after Titicaca. The highest peaks are in the Kakshaal-Too range, forming the Chinese border. Peak Jengish Chokusu, at 7,439 m (24,406 ft), is the highest point and is considered by geologists to be the northernmost peak over 7,000 m (22,966 ft) in the world.
Kyrgyzstan has significant deposits of metals including gold and rare-earth metals. Due to the country’s predominantly mountainous terrain, less than 8% of the land is cultivated, and this is concentrated in the northern lowlands and the fringes of the Fergana Valley.

 ABOUT OSH CITY (KYRGYZSTAN)

Osh has been a student city, a center of education, science, and technology for the last one thousand years. Osh, a mountainous city located in the heart of the historically famous Ferghana valley. The second-largest city in Kyrgyzstan. Osh is the administrative center of southern Kyrgyzstan, Southern capital of Kyrgyzstan, and the capital of the Osh region.
There are a lot of places for refreshment activities, a sports stadium, sports centers, swimming pools, billiard clubs, a winter sports center with skiing tracks and other winter sports, a number of cinemas with the latest English, Russian and Indian movies. Spare time can be spent in restaurants, drama theatres. concerts of famous Russian and Kyrgyz singers are often held at concert halls of the city. There is a lot of cafés, restaurants in the city, with fast food, Italian, Russian, Uzbek, Chinese, Pakistani and Indian cuisine.

As Osh is a mountainous city, a hill station, summers are very beautiful. People come from other cities to Osh to spend their vacations and enjoy the beauty of nature. Weather in Osh is continental with temperature in summer ranges from +15°C to +30°C and in winter ranges from – 5°C to +15°C. There are the boulevards and parks with lots of trees.
Osh is definitely a city where you could walk around for hours, just to get to know the culture and try to feel it yourself. Reputedly three thousand years old, Osh is one of the oldest cities in Central Asia. In the middle ages, Osh was a point of intersection for commerce from India and China to Europe. One of the branches of a Great Silk Way – the Major Trade of an old age passed through the city connecting East with West.
The city has several monuments, including one to the southern Kyrgyz “queen” Kurmanjan Datka and one of the few remaining statues of Lenin. The second-largest mosque in the country and the 16th-century Rabat Abdul Khan Mosque can be found here. The only World Heritage Site in Kyrgyzstan, the Sulayman Mountain, offers a splendid view of Osh and its environs.

 TOURISM

One of the most popular tourist destination points in Kyrgyzstan are the lake Issyk-Kul and Osh region. Numerous hotels, resorts and boarding houses are located along northern shore of the Issyk Kul. The most popular beach zones are in the city of Cholpon-Ata and the settlements nearby, such as Kara-Oi (Dolinka), Bosteri and Korumdy.
Some of the most popular locations for camping are southern Osh, the area between Naryn City and the Torugart pass, and the mountains and glaciers surrounding Karakol in Issyk-Kul.

 FOOD & ACCOMODATION

Food is the most important and basic necessity of life. Keeping this necessity in mind, Osh IMU has a special provision for food and catering to student needs through its mess/canteen.This mess is run by the Osh IMU Representatives of India and Pakistan. The university’s hostel has a canteen where Indian cooks work. Students have opportunities to enjoy the traditional Indian & Pakistani cuisine.

However currently, the mess operates for Indian and Pakistani students only. We have cooks who are specialized in every cuisine like Chinese, Pakistani, North Indian & South Indian.

The Osh IMU mess has a variety of menu that includes chapatti, rice, sweets etc. The Mess serves Vegetarian and Non Vegetarian dishes. Vegetarian dishes include vegetables and pulses while Non Vegetarian dishes include mutton, chicken and fish. Meals are served three times a day. There is a specified discipline maintained in the Osh IMU mess. Correct timings should be maintained by students. Special preparations can be ordered or requested by students to the Osh IMU mess administration to celebrate birthdays, festivals and parties etc.
Osh IMU has taken care of accommodation places by disposing its own dormitories for both girls and boys. It is quite sufficient for students to live comfortably. Students do not even need to worry about their meals as hostels are well equipped with our cooks and even self-cooking slots for students.

Special workers have been appointed in order to maintain cleanliness in the hostel rooms, corridors, premises, toilets and bathrooms. At present, the Osh IMU has provided several dormitories to its foreign students. Entrances and exits of each hostel have additional inner gates to ensure extra security and safety of the students.

Representatives of the Osh IMU Student’s Community, i.e. the Senators for Hostel Affairs also reside in these hostels, help students in solving their problems, and assist them whenever required. Each hostel has a set of toilets and bathrooms that have a regular cold and hot water supply. Besides, each hostel has its laundry room, gym hall, while some of them have billiards rooms and rooms for individual reading and training. In addition to this, our students enjoy Wi-Fi connection. Students are allowed to enter the hostel premises until 10:00 pm, which are well guarded with police security.

 COMMON DETAILS OF HOSTEL PREMISES

In fact, the Osh IMU has made it possible for students to stay in two, three and four bedded rooms. These rooms are furnished with beds, chairs, one large sized study table, a personal wardrobe. Pillows, bed sheets, mattresses, quilts and blankets are provided by hostel wardens. Each room has ample amount of ventilation.

It is worth mentioning the Osh IMU has several types of accommodation places, in some of which, for example, students can do the laundry on their own using washing-machines available. This saves time of the students which they can use for studies. More staff have been appointed to maintain cleanliness and hygiene in our hostels. Rooms are cleaned and wiped on daily basis. Toilets and Bathrooms are also cleaned daily with antiseptics and detergents.

 HEALTH & SECURITY

Each student of Osh International Medical University is required to have adequate medical service coverage to enroll in any Osh IMU offered program.
Osh IMU medical service coverage is provided for the duration of the student’s study in the school. Medical service coverage fee will be added to student tuition.
Medical coverage covers emergency hospitalization and medical services (including out-patient treatment at a doctor’s clinic) for an unexpected sickness or injury.
In case if you need urgent but simplest medical aid (medical advice as well as blood pressure or temperature measuring, injections, dropper on doctor’s recommendations, etc.) the nurse is ready to be at your service.

Please note that health coverage is not provided for students who travel outside of Kyrgyzstan.

Although Indian and Pakistani students are the largest groups of students in Osh IMU and have their own representatives, students from many other countries study here as well.
